Frequently Asked Questions

Why M4A files?

We have three reasons for choosing M4A files. After a lot of research we found M4A to offer the best quality-to-size ratio. This means you get the files more quickly, and it doesn't cost us the earth to get them to you. Secondly, many customers own iPods and this is the format of choice for those people. Customers who do not have the option of burning CDs and M4A play on most modern MP3 players. Thirdly, in our tests we found it better to transcode (convert) down to the older MP3 format rather than the other way around.

What do I need to download M4A files?

In order to download M4A files you need exactly the same things that you need to download any other types of files:
  • A suitable computer with a fast connection to the Internet, via a local area network or broadband etc.
  • A web browser such as Internet Explorer, Netscape Navigator or Opera on PC or Mac.
  • Enough hard disk space to store the files.

What do I need to play M4A files?

In order to play M4A files on a PC you need a sound board and external speakers, plus an M4A player program. You can download a large number of M4A player programs from various Internet sites. Occasionally M4A player programs suffer from break-ups - interruptions to their output when the PC is very busy, for example when loading another program from the hard disk. This only happens on older PCs.

One of the most popular M4A player programs is iTunes from Apple.

You will also need a personal M4A player such as an iPod if you wish to listen to the files away from a computer. Alternatively if your player doesn't support M4A format, you can transcode the file (convert to another format) like MP3.

Can I burn the files to a CD?

Yes - you can burn up to 5 CDs from the tracks you purchase. You may be able to do this directly from your music management program (such as iTunes) or you may need third party software such as Roxio's Easy CD Creator (PC) or Toast (Mac).
